District Championships are right around the corner on June 8th. If you have qualified to compete, please make sure you register online prior to the May 25th deadline! (This is very important as no onsite registrations will be allowed.) If you have any questions or concerns, please see Sr. Master as soon as possible.

Please note that Niblock’s ATA will be closed Friday, May 24th through Monday, May 27th for the Memorial Day weekend. While this holiday is a welcome break and helps kick off summer for many of us, we can not forget those whom this holiday honors. All of us at Niblock’s ATA are extremely grateful to everyone who has served in the Armed Forces. We honor the memory of those who haveĀ made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to those who have served and continue to serve today.

Moms train free during the month of May! There’s not much time left, so be sure to take advantage of this opportunity while you can! Not only will you have a great experience, your kids will have a great time training right alongside with you!! It’s a great way to get some challenging physical exercise and fun family time!!

Just a few more days to save 10% on all gear at Niblock’s ATA! This offer expires on May 31st so make sure you place your orders soon. (This is a great opportunity to plan ahead and maybe pick up some cool Father’s Day gifts too!!)

The next Instructor Training and Black Belt Mentoring will be held on June 1st so be sure to mark this on your calendar. If you are currently an instructor or assistant, or would like to become one, then be sure to attend these helpful training classes throughout the year. And if you are a Black Belt and would like to improve your performance from BBE (or just in general), then Black Belt Mentoring classes are a great way to get additional feedback on areas that make a big difference in your technique and presentation.

Congratulations on another great Black Belt Extravaganza!!! In forms, in sparring, and in the board breaks, testers showed up with the right attitude and brought their “A” game for sure! It was a hard, challenging testing experience, but everyone stayed positive and strong and that helped to encourage their fellow students when things got tough. In the end, everybody shined! Don’t ever underestimate the effect your attitude has on the outcome — our Black Belts brought their Black Belt Attitudes and rocked! Coincidence? We think not. Black Belts, YOU made it what it was, and it was AWESOME! šŸ˜€

Please note that there will be a modified schedule on Thursday, May 16th. There will be one class for all Color Belts at 5:30p and one class for all Black Belts at 6:30p. (There is no impact to Friday and Saturday classes — they will follow the normal schedule.)

Students who are eligible to compete at District Championships need to be sure to register online before the May 25th deadline! Check the District Championships section of the ATA website for more details on this exciting new event!!

Don’t forget: Moms train free during the month of May! Moms, this is a great opportunity for you to try out TKD class and see what it’s all about. You’ll get a new perspective on what your kids are doing and why they enjoy it so much too! This is a great way to get fit, have fun, and get stress relief all in one! So next time you bring your kid to class, come on out on the blue floor with them and kick it into high gear!! It’ll be an event to remember (because your muscles won’t let you forget it for a while.) šŸ˜‰

Just a reminder that all gear is 10% off through the end of May at Niblock’s ATA! This is perfect timing with graduation in the air. We have middle and high school graduations, college graduations, Color Belt graduations, Black Belt graduations, work promotions… Why not reward your TKD student’s accomplishment with a special item chosen just for them?! It’s a great (& fitting) way to reward all their hard work, perseverance, and discipline!

Attitude

Every event we face gives us an opportunity to choose how we react, and this in turn can influence subsequent outcomes. With the upcoming BBE, many Black Belts may be feeling a little more stressed than usual, but it is important that we maintain a positive outlook, especially if things don’t go quite how we plan.

Despite our best efforts at training and preparation, Black Belt Extravaganza can often present results we didn’t expect. Maybe we forget part of the form or stumble on a simple technique. The best thing to do is to shake it off so it doesn’t impact your performance in sparring or board breaks. Don’t let it get you down; keep a positive attitude instead! In BBE, and in life in general, speed bumps can pop up at the least opportune times. But we can choose whether we focus on the positive or the negative, and that ultimately determines what kind of experience we have.

We all hope that things go smoothly in BBE, at school, at work, at life. But that won’t always be the reality. Stuff happens — good stuff, bad stuff, crazy stuff, unexpected stuff. Always remember to approach events with a good attitude, as that often makes the biggest difference in the overall experience and what you gain from it.

“The only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude.” ~ Dennis S. Brown ~

Black Belt Boot Camp was another great success with students being able to take away specific points to focus on in preparation for testing! Techniques and board breaking set-ups were tweaked, but students were also reminded about how much attitude can factor into a successful outcome for BBE!!

She always remembered to stock mac-n-cheese for you, always had tissues and band-aids handy, and most importantly, was always prepared with hugs and kisses. So make sure you remember Mom on Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 12th! This is a special day to celebrate the incredible spirit of Moms and Grandmas who were always there to give us a dose of whatever we needed at the moment — laughter, confidence, common sense, advice, reassurance, & (always) love. Be sure to take this opportunity to appreciate Mom and everything she’s done for you!

Niblock’s ATA wishes all our TKD Moms and Grandmas a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Hey Juniors, as an extra treat for mom, why not encourage her to join you in TKD this month? Moms train FREE for the entire month of May! So see Sr. Master for details and then bring mom with you to class for a little amped up quality time together!

Plus, if you need ideas for a last minute Mother’s Day gift, Niblock’s ATA has all gear for 10% off during the month of May. A spa package is nice, sure, but never underestimate the stress relief that comes from punching and kicking a bag. A spa package is relaxing for a few hours, but the punching bag is a gift that keeps on giving. Just a suggestion… šŸ™‚

Please note that there isĀ aĀ modified scheduleĀ for next Thursday, May 16th.Ā There will beĀ one class atĀ 5:30pĀ for all Color Belts and one class at 6:30p class for all Black Belts. Please make a note of thisĀ slight change for next Thursday (5/16) only!

Instructor certification this past Saturday proved to be informative, educational, and challenging not just for the instructors but also for students who attended classes that day. Students in both Black Belt and Color Belt classes on Saturday had the opportunity to experience different styles of teaching from several instructors, with each instructor bringing a unique perspective on key elements of TKD. It served as a great reminder of just how many different aspects there are to this sport!

Attitude

Everyone has an attitude. Sometimes it is a good one; sometimes it is a bad one; sometimes it is an optimistic one; sometimes it is a downright grumpy one; sometimes it is even an apathetic one. But no matter what the attitude may be, it can drastically affect how we function and how we view everything that happens.

A person’s attitude can change multiple times over the course of any day. Afterall, life is a series of ups and downs and it is going to impact how we feel. But when a negative outlook starts becoming the norm for everyday life, then it’s time to take a moment and re-group.

Every now and then, life will throw us a curve ball. (Actually, sometimes it feels more like life has an automatic ball launcher that has gone haywire and you’re in the batting cage being pelted. But I digress…)

Life is life. And life is very much what you choose to make of it. Each day you are given opportunities, but sometimes they disguise themselves. Will you notice them or will you be too focused on everything that went “wrong”? Realize that failures, for example, aren’t failures — they are chances to learn and grow your experience. Challenges are not insurmountable — they are a chance to put your grit and determination to good use. Your attitude greatly determines how you view the opportunities that present themselves as well as how you approach them. So choose your attitude well and don’t be afraid to take a swing at some of those curve balls coming your way. You never know when you might just hit a home run.

Check the website calendar for details!

Please note that there will be no regular 9:00a or 9:45a classes that day.

Black Belts, make sure you have these important events on your calendar: Black Belt Boot Camp on May 4th and Black Belt Extravaganza on May 11th! Check the calendar for specific details on each event and start making plans to attend!
